Life Insurance Agent Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a life insurance agent in New Jersey?
You must obtain a Life Insurance Producer license from the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance before you can sell policies in the state. The path requires completing a pre-licensing education course approved by the Department, passing the New Jersey Life Insurance licensing exam administered through a state-approved testing provider, and submitting a license application. No college degree is required by the state, though many employers prefer it.
Which companies hire life insurance agents in New Jersey?
Employers hiring life insurance agents in New Jersey right now include State Farm and THE PARKER, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of major financial services headquarters, particularly along the Route 1 and I-78 corridors, means the state has a deeper bench of full-time staff agent roles than most markets.
Which New Jersey cities have the most life insurance agent jobs?
Union, Madison, and Medford have the most life insurance agent openings in New Jersey. Newark and Jersey City draw heavy hiring because of the large financial services and insurance company headquarters clustered there, while Princeton and its surrounding townships attract roles tied to wealth management firms and corporate benefits operations that have long established offices in central New Jersey.
Are there remote life insurance agent jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because client relationship-building and in-person prospecting remain central to the role. About 60% of life insurance agent openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cluster around group benefits consulting and renewals work rather than individual new-business sales positions.
How can I get hired as a life insurance agent in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a career agency program, which Prudential Financial and New York Life both run out of their New Jersey offices specifically for candidates without prior sales experience. These programs pair new agents with a training manager and a subsidized income draw while you build a book. Obtaining your New Jersey Life Insurance Producer license before you apply signals seriousness and accelerates the hiring process considerably.
Where can I find and apply to life insurance agent jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to life insurance agent jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles that match your license type, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit your situation.
