Tips for Your Marketing Designer Job Search
Tailor your portfolio to each application
Marketing designers are hired on their work, not their resume alone. Curate your portfolio to show the exact output the role needs, whether that's paid social assets, brand systems, or email templates, rather than a general collection of everything you've made.
Show process, not just final deliverables
Hiring managers want to see how you think, not just what you shipped. Include a short case study for at least two projects that walks through the brief, your creative decisions, and how the final design solved the original business problem.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists marketing designer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by the software stack listed
Job postings for marketing designers almost always specify tools, typically Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or motion tools like After Effects. Match your resume and cover letter language to the exact tools listed in each posting so you clear automated screening.
Prepare a design critique for your interview
Many marketing designer interviews include a live critique or whiteboard exercise. Practice explaining design choices you'd make differently on past work, using specific reasoning tied to audience, channel, or brand guidelines rather than personal aesthetic preference.
Negotiate using the full offer, not just base pay
When you receive an offer, ask about the creative tools budget, professional development allowance, and whether the company covers software subscriptions. These details vary widely across employers and add real value beyond your base compensation.
Marketing Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most marketing designers?
The companies hiring the most marketing designers right now include NIKE, Figma, and Amazon, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. In-house brand and e-commerce teams tend to post the highest volume of openings consistently.
How many marketing designer jobs are remote?
About 30% of marketing designer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more flexible creative roles on the market. Digital-first sub-areas like social media creative, email design, and performance marketing assets tend to have the highest share of remote positions.
How do you become a marketing designer?
Most marketing designers start with a foundation in graphic design, either through a degree program or self-directed study, then build proficiency in tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite. From there, building a portfolio of real or spec marketing campaigns, including social assets and brand collateral, is what moves candidates into their first roles. Entry-level positions at agencies or in-house brand teams are the most common starting points.
Can you get hired as a marketing designer with little experience?
Yes, employers hiring junior marketing designers focus heavily on your portfolio over your years of experience. Spec work, freelance projects, student campaigns, and volunteer creative work all count. Demonstrating that you can follow brand guidelines, work across multiple formats, and explain your creative decisions matters more than a long employment history at this level.
What does the marketing designer interview process look like?
Marketing designer interviews typically begin with a portfolio review where you walk the hiring manager through two or three projects in depth. A design challenge or take-home brief is common in the second stage, asking you to produce a sample asset for the company's brand. Final rounds usually include a conversation with a cross-functional team covering creative process, how you handle feedback, and how you prioritize competing deadlines.
Where can I find and apply to marketing designer jobs?
You can find and apply to marketing designer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your skills and experience level, and apply directly to each listing without leaving the platform.
