National Account Executive Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a national account executive in Illinois?
Most national account executive roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, followed by several years of progressively responsible sales experience. Illinois does not issue a state-specific license for this role, so hiring decisions center on demonstrated account management results and industry knowledge. Candidates entering enterprise technology, medical device, or foodservice distribution often build their credentials through industry certifications such as the Certified Sales Professional designation before applying to senior roles.
How much do national account executives make in Illinois?
National account executives in Illinois earn a median of about $73,510 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,130 for the lowest 10% to over $134,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire national account executives in Illinois?
Employers hiring national account executives in Illinois right now include SpotHero, Travelers, and Rose Paving, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the Chicago metro and suburban corporate campuses in Lake County and DuPage County means large enterprise employers consistently maintain active national account teams here year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most national account executive jobs?
The cities with the most national account executive openings in Illinois are Chicago and Villa Park. Chicago drives the largest share of postings given its headquarters density in industries like finance, healthcare, and technology, while suburban markets like Schaumburg and Deerfield reflect the national sales teams based at major corporate campuses along the northern and northwestern corridors.
Are there remote national account executive jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields, since national account executive work is fundamentally relationship- and phone-based rather than tied to a fixed worksite. About 50% of national account executive openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which is consistent with the role's nature. Strategic account planning, pipeline management, and internal reporting are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely, while executive business reviews and contract negotiations still typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a national account executive in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an inside sales representative or business development representative at a large Illinois employer, then moving into national account management after demonstrating consistent quota attainment. Companies like Zebra Technologies and U.S. Foods run structured sales development programs that place new hires on national account teams after a defined ramp period. Building expertise in a specific vertical, such as foodservice distribution or enterprise software, and earning a Certified Sales Professional credential gives candidates a competitive edge when applying to associate national account roles.
Where can I find and apply to national account executive jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to national account executive jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find the roles that fit your experience and target industry, then apply directly to each one through the listing.
