Position Summary:
The HR Operations Consultant owns the operational infrastructure of EWG—driving project execution, case intake and triage, policy governance, and operational reporting across both HR Risk and Associate Relations. This role requires independent judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to build structure where none exists. It is an ownership role, not a support role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Own the EWG project portfolio: lead planning and execution of cross-functional initiatives including system implementations, process transformation, and organizational change efforts; maintain program-level reporting on progress, risks, and resource needs
- Run case intake and triage operations: assess incoming cases on severity, complexity, and expertise required; route to the appropriate Risk Consultant, AR Consultant, or external partner; design and refine the triage framework, escalation protocols, and SLA expectations
- Drive the policy governance lifecycle: In partnership with the Sr. HR Risk & Governance Consultant, maintain the enterprise HR Risk policy library; manage the full review cycle from scheduling through SME review, redlines, and final sign-off by the Sr. HR Risk Partner; monitor regulatory developments and bring recommendations for updates
- Build and maintain operational dashboards on case volumes, cycle times, capacity, and SLA adherence; own HRIS data integrity for the function and serve as the primary liaison during system transitions
- Assist in implementing the operating model and governance routines; monitor progress against priorities, flag risks/dependencies, and recommend adjustments
- Lead SOP development and process improvement: identify bottlenecks, design workflow improvements, and codify institutional knowledge into scalable, repeatable processes
- Own knowledge management, onboarding for new team members and consultants, and coordination of team events and training
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field, or equivalent experience

- Strong judgment on case routing, prioritization, and resource allocation decisions
- Advanced proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite; outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in a regulated industry, preferably financial services; absolute discretion with confidential information
Preferred
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification; experience with Oracle HCM or comparable HRIS implementations
- Working knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, or risk management; experience leading organizational transformation

Tips for Your Operations Consultant Job Search
Quantify process improvements on your resume
Operations consultant roles attract heavy competition, so your resume needs hard outcomes, not job descriptions. Replace phrases like 'improved efficiency' with specifics: cycle time reduced, cost eliminated, throughput increased. Hiring managers filter on measurable impact, not responsibilities.
Tailor your resume to the engagement model
Boutique firms and Big Four practices look for different things. Boutiques want evidence of wearing multiple hats and owning deliverables solo. Large firms want structured frameworks, team coordination, and client-facing communication. Read the job posting closely and match your bullet language to their model.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists operations consultant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings by methodology, not just title
Search for the methodologies you know, such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Agile, alongside the title. Postings that name a specific methodology in the description signal what the first engagement looks like, letting you apply where your toolkit is already a fit.
Prepare a case interview for every final round
Most operations consultant final rounds include at least one structured case, even at industry firms outside traditional consulting. Practice framing a problem, structuring a hypothesis, and presenting a recommendation in under 20 minutes. Generic behavioral prep alone won't get you through.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
When you receive an offer, clarify the engagement mix, travel expectations, and promotion timeline before discussing pay. Operations consulting roles vary widely in billable hours and client-site requirements, and those factors affect your actual working conditions more than base salary alone.
Operations Consultant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most operations consultants?
The companies hiring the most operations consultants right now include Alvarez & Marsal, Terracon Consultants, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially concentrated at management consulting firms, healthcare systems, and large logistics and financial services organizations.
How many operations consultant jobs are remote?
About 36% of operations consultant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the share varies significantly by industry and engagement type. Sub-areas focused on data analysis, process documentation, and internal strategy tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles requiring on-site process observation or client-facility work remain largely in-person.
How do you become an operations consultant?
Start by building a foundation in business analysis, process improvement, or a domain like supply chain or finance through a relevant degree or early-career role. Develop proficiency in structured problem-solving frameworks and data tools. Pursue a Lean or Six Sigma certification to signal methodology knowledge, then target analyst or associate-level consulting roles where you can build a portfolio of measurable project outcomes.
Can you get hired as an operations consultant with little experience?
Yes, firms hire operations consultants at the entry level, typically through analyst or associate programs. Your strongest asset without extensive experience is demonstrating structured thinking: show how you diagnosed a problem, what data you used, and what changed as a result. Internships, capstone projects, or even volunteer process-improvement work in a student organization can serve as credible evidence when framed around outcomes.
What does the operations consultant interview process look like?
Most processes run in two to three stages. An initial screen with a recruiter or HR partner covers your background and fit. A technical or case round tests your ability to structure an operational problem, analyze data, and present a recommendation clearly. Final rounds often include a panel with senior consultants or practice leads who assess client communication skills, business judgment, and cultural fit.
Where can I find and apply to operations consultant jobs?
You can find and apply to operations consultant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each listing. There's no need to go elsewhere to compare options or submit applications.
