Please note: This is a second-shift position with a regular Monday through Friday schedule during afternoon and evening hours.
- Supervise the real-time monitoring, control, and operations of the Rhode Island Gas Distribution System utilizing SCADA and supporting software systems.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the natural gas control system.
- Respond to and manage emergency situations, including gas leaks, equipment failures, and other incidents.
- Coordinate and communicate with field operations, maintenance teams, and other departments.
- Remain qualified to operate the SCADA system and manage the RIE natural gas distribution system.
- Operating the RIE natural gas distribution system as needed.
- This position may be required to work twelve-hour rotating shift coverage as an operator of the RIE natural gas distribution system, if necessary.
- Supervise gas control operators.
- Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor performance.
- Provide training and development opportunities for staff to ensure high levels of competency.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to gas distribution and control.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect employees, customers, and the public.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of all gas control activities, including incidents, maintenance work, and system performance.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding gas control operations.
- Coordinate with emergency response teams, regulatory agencies, and customers during incidents.
- Communicate effectively with management and other departments to ensure alignment with operational goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, mathematics, business, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of four years of gas operations experience.
- Strong knowledge of natural gas systems, control room operations, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent frontline leadership skills as well as communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, effective decisions in emergency situations.
- Proficiency in gas control software and SCADA systems.
- Ability to achieve and maintain required Operator Qualifications.
- Requires shift work, including weekends, and holidays.
- On-call availability for emergency situations.
- Work is primarily in a control room environment with occasional field visits.
