Employers in manufacturing and defense contracting often prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing a Certified Professional in Supply Management credential through the Institute for Supply Management. Internships or co-op placements with Rhode Island manufacturers are a practical first step into the field.
Which companies hire sourcings in Rhode Island?

Rhode Island's concentration of defense contractors, specialty manufacturers, and large healthcare organizations means sourcing demand stays relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most sourcing jobs?
Johnston, Woonsocket, and Cumberland have the most sourcing openings in Rhode Island. Providence drives volume as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, while North Kingstown and Woonsocket reflect the strength of defense and manufacturing employers that maintain significant procurement operations outside the capital.
Are there remote sourcing jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical roles, since much sourcing work involves supplier site visits and cross-functional coordination. About 25% of sourcing openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remote share concentrated in indirect procurement and strategic sourcing roles that rely more on systems and communications than on plant-floor presence.
How can I get hired as a sourcing in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
