Practice Assistant Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a practice assistant in Washington?
Most practice assistant roles in Washington require a high school diploma plus completion of a medical or dental assisting program at a community college or vocational school. For clinical-facing positions, Washington does not mandate a single statewide license for general practice assistants, but dental assistants performing expanded functions must register with the Washington State Department of Health. Completing a recognized certificate program and gaining hands-on externship experience is the most reliable path to employment.
Which companies hire practice assistants in Washington?
Employers hiring practice assistants in Washington right now include University Of Washington, Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, and PeaceHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's large integrated health systems and independently owned specialty practices both contribute consistently to the available openings across the state.
Which Washington cities have the most practice assistant jobs?
Seattle, Yakima, and Spokane have the most practice assistant openings in Washington. The concentration reflects Seattle's dense network of specialty clinics, hospital-affiliated practices, and corporate headquarters, while Tacoma and other Puget Sound communities benefit from the regional presence of large health systems like MultiCare and CHI Franciscan that operate multiple outpatient sites throughout the area.
Are there remote practice assistant jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. Practice assistant work is largely on-site because it involves direct patient interaction, front-desk coordination, and clinical support tasks that require physical presence. About 18% of practice assistant openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in administrative or billing-focused functions rather than clinical or patient-facing duties.
How can I get hired as a practice assistant in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a medical or dental assisting certificate program at a Washington community college, such as Bellevue College or South Seattle College, which typically include externship placements at local clinics. Large Washington employers like MultiCare Health System and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health regularly hire new graduates into entry-level front-office and clinical support roles. Lateral moves from patient service representative or medical records clerk positions also open the door, and holding a current CPR certification gives candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to practice assistant jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to practice assistant jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings from employers hiring right now. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly through the listing.
