Most pre sales engineers in New York enter the field through a technical degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems, combined with hands-on experience in a product support, solutions architecture, or software implementation role. New York employers do not require a state-issued license for this position. Candidates who build fluency in the platforms dominant in New York's fintech and enterprise software sectors, and who can demonstrate success in client-facing technical roles, are most competitive.
How much do pre sales engineers make in New York?
Pre sales engineers in New York earn a median of about $137,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,690 for the lowest 10% to over $218,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pre sales engineers in New York?
Employers hiring pre sales engineers in New York right now include Capgemini, Ahead, and Envoy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's dense concentration of financial services firms, global tech offices, and cybersecurity companies makes it one of the most sustained markets for pre sales engineering talent in the country.
Which New York cities have the most pre sales engineer jobs?
New York, New York State, and Albany have the most pre sales engineer openings in New York. New York City accounts for the large majority of listings, driven by its headquarters density in financial technology, enterprise software, and telecommunications, while Albany and Buffalo attract volume from healthcare IT vendors and regional technology integrators serving state government and mid-market clients.
Are there remote pre sales engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most technical roles. About 75% of pre sales engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work, product demos, discovery calls, and proposal support, runs through video and collaboration tools. Roles tied to hardware, on-site proof-of-concept deployments, or regulated financial clients tend to require more in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a pre sales engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a technical support, inside sales engineering, or solutions consultant associate role at a mid-size software or infrastructure company in New York City. Large employers like IBM and Cisco run structured associate or rotational programs that place candidates with technical degrees into pre sales tracks. Building a portfolio of product demonstrations or proof-of-concept documentation, and earning a vendor certification in a cloud or networking platform, gives candidates without direct pre sales experience a concrete advantage.
