Job Description
About the Role
You'll join IFS Loops as a founding member of a new kind of forward-deployed role - one built deliberately to sit between presales and product, not to live entirely inside either one. This isn't a role where you just run a demo, win a deal, and move on. You'll go deep with our most strategic prospects and customers, discover the agentic use cases that actually move their business, prove them fast by using the IFS loops platform to show its value, and then feed everything you learn straight back into what IFS Loops product team. The best PoC patterns you create won't stay locked inside a single account; they become native Agentic platform capability, shipped to every IFS customer.
This is a role for someone who genuinely loves being in the room with customers, but who's thinking like a product person the entire time they're there and is solving for complex problems that the customer can see value of in short POV cycle
You'll
Own the full arc from conversation to proof: run discovery directly with prospects and customers, identify agentic use cases with real business value, and build convincing Solutions using IFS loops agentic platform proofs of concept in weeks, not months.
Be the technical voice customers trust: present the same PoC as a hands-on walkthrough for a technical architect and as a business case for a CxO - sometimes in the same week.
Sit at the center of presales and product: partner with Account Executives to win technical validation on live deals, and with the Loops product and engineering teams to turn recurring patterns into native platform capability.
Shape what IFS Loops becomes: what you learn in the field - what works, what doesn't, what customers actually ask for - feeds directly into the Agentic platform roadmap.
Build faster than anyone else in the room: use AI-assisted development tools to compress prototyping timelines and move at founder speed.
Bring judgment to ambiguity: know when a use case is real and buildable versus a distraction and scope a PoC that proves the point without overbuilding.
Train Core presales on standard capability of the platform and digital workers. Run ongoing workshops globally to help them scale.
Qualifications
About You
You love customers - genuinely: you're as energized by a whiteboard session with a VP of Operations as by tuning a multi-agent workflow.
You've done presales or solutions engineering: discovery, demos, PoCs, objection handling and you know how to move a technical evaluation toward a decision.
You also think like a product person: you can tell the difference between a one-off customer ask and a pattern worth building into the platform.
You're deeply hands-on with agentic AI: multi-agent design, tool use, human-in-the-loop patterns, and platforms like Agent Studio or comparable orchestration tools.
You understand asset-intensive industries: Enterprise Asset Management, Field Service Management, Manufacturing, or Aerospace & Defense, well enough to run a credible conversation without a subject matter expert in the room.
You communicate with equal credibility to a developer deep in an API and a CEO thinking about risk and ROI.
Experience: a track record in presales, solutions engineering, or forward-deployed roles, with genuine product instincts. Former founders and builders who've shipped 0-to-1 are strongly encouraged to apply.
Nice to Have
Experience in a forward-deployed, applied AI, or founding engineering role at a fast-growing enterprise AI company
Experience translating field learnings into product requirements or roadmap input
Deep familiarity with LLMs, retrieval systems, and agent evaluation frameworks
Experience selling or deploying software into asset-intensive or regulated industries (aerospace & defense, energy, manufacturing)
Willingness to travel to customer sites (approximately 25–50%)

Pre Sales Engineer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pre sales engineer in California?
Most pre sales engineers in California start with a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline, then move into a technical support or solutions architect role before transitioning into pre-sales. California does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers typically want hands-on product knowledge plus demonstrated ability to run technical evaluations. Certifications from vendors like Cisco, AWS, or Salesforce strengthen candidacy significantly in California's enterprise-heavy market.
How much do pre sales engineers make in California?
Pre sales engineers in California earn a median of about $139,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,850 for the lowest 10% to over $213,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pre sales engineers in California?
Employers hiring pre sales engineers in California right now include Apple, Tesla, and Altium, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of enterprise software, cloud, and networking companies means hiring is continuous rather than seasonal, with particularly deep benches in the Bay Area and Los Angeles corridors.
Which California cities have the most pre sales engineer jobs?
San Francisco, Cupertino, and Palo Alto have the most pre sales engineer openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its dense cluster of enterprise technology and cloud vendors headquartered there, while Los Angeles reflects growing demand from media technology and aerospace-adjacent software companies that rely heavily on pre-sales teams to close complex deals.
Are there remote pre sales engineer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 71% of pre sales engineer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role revolves around virtual product demonstrations and digital discovery calls. The portions most likely to remain on-site are proof-of-concept installations and executive briefings that require in-person presence at a California customer site.
How can I get hired as a pre sales engineer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support or solutions consultant role into a junior or associate pre sales engineer position at a mid-size California software company. Large California employers like Cisco and Salesforce run structured associate sales engineer and technical residency programs aimed at recent graduates. Building a portfolio of live product demos and earning a vendor certification in a platform like AWS or Google Cloud gives candidates a concrete edge with California hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to pre sales engineer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to pre sales engineer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
