Principal Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal in Florida?
To become a principal in Florida, you must hold a Florida Educational Leadership certificate issued by the Florida Department of Education. Candidates typically complete a state-approved Educational Leadership preparation program, earn a master's degree or higher, and meet classroom teaching experience requirements set by the Florida State Board of Education. The certificate is required before assuming a principal role in any Florida public school.
Which companies hire principals in Florida?
Employers hiring principals in Florida right now include Northrop Grumman, NextEra Energy, and Pratt & Whitney, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's large urban school districts and expanding charter networks are among the most consistent sources of principal openings across the state.
Which Florida cities have the most principal jobs?
The Florida cities with the most principal openings are Melbourne, Miami, and Orlando. Hiring is concentrated in these metros because they are home to Florida's largest school districts, including Miami-Dade, Broward, Hillsborough, and Orange County Public Schools, which together employ thousands of school-based administrators and regularly recruit for both campus and district leadership roles.
Are there remote principal jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they are rare. Principal work is fundamentally on-site, requiring daily presence to lead staff, support students, and manage campus operations. About 53% of principal openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions typically involve district-level or instructional coaching roles rather than traditional school-building leadership.
How can I get hired as a principal in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an assistant principal role, which Florida school districts treat as the primary leadership pipeline. Large systems such as Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Hillsborough County Public Schools regularly post assistant principal openings for candidates with a teaching background and a Florida Educational Leadership certificate in progress. Experience as a department chair, instructional coach, or dean of students at a Florida school strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to principal jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to principal jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your experience level and preferred district or region, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
