Principal Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal in New Hampshire?
To become a principal in New Hampshire, you must hold a valid New Hampshire Principal license issued by the New Hampshire Department of Education. Candidates also complete a supervised internship and pass required assessments. Applications are submitted through the NH DOE educator certification portal.
Which companies hire principals in New Hampshire?

Which New Hampshire cities have the most principal jobs?
The cities with the most principal openings in New Hampshire are Nashua, Hudson, and Merrimack. Manchester and Nashua drive the highest volume due to their large public school systems and proximity to private and charter schools, while Concord's concentration of state government offices and anchor institutions supports steady demand for district and school-level leadership roles.
Are there remote principal jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, but they're rare. About 73% of principal openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the fundamentally on-site nature of school leadership. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work include curriculum planning, data analysis, and administrative reporting rather than daily building operations or staff supervision.
How can I get hired as a principal in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an assistant principal role within a New Hampshire public school district, which is how most first-time principals build their credentials in the state.
