Principal Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal in Utah?
To become a principal in Utah, you must hold a Level 2 Administrative/Supervisory license issued by the Utah State Board of Education. That requires completing an accredited master's program in educational leadership, fulfilling a supervised internship, and passing the required competency assessments. Most candidates begin as classroom teachers, then transition into assistant principal roles before advancing. The Utah State Board of Education oversees all licensure requirements and applications.
Which companies hire principals in Utah?
Companies currently hiring principals in Utah include Northrop Grumman, Draper, and Oracle, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's large suburban school districts, including Granite, Alpine, and Jordan, are among the most consistent sources of principal openings in the state.
Which Utah cities have the most principal jobs?
Roy, Clearfield, and Salt Lake City have the most principal openings in Utah. Salt Lake City leads due to the concentration of district administrative offices and charter networks headquartered there, while Provo and Ogden reflect the large suburban and urban district hiring activity driven by Alpine School District and Weber School District respectively.
Are there remote principal jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Principal work is fundamentally on-site, requiring daily presence in school buildings to oversee staff, students, and operations. About 45% of principal openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those postings typically involve district-level administrative or curriculum leadership roles rather than building-level principal positions.
How can I get hired as a principal in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an assistant principal or dean of students role while completing a Utah-accredited educational leadership master's program. Large Utah districts such as Granite School District and Jordan School District regularly recruit licensed teachers into assistant principal pipelines. Holding or actively pursuing your Utah Level 2 Administrative/Supervisory license gives you a concrete edge, and lateral moves from instructional coach or department head roles are a common bridge.
Where can I find and apply to principal jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to principal jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings across districts, charter networks, and education organizations. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employers posting them.
