The path in New Jersey typically starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or engineering, followed by years in solutions engineering, pre-sales, or systems architecture roles. New Jersey has no state-issued license specific to this role, so career progression is credential-driven: certifications from major cloud platforms and enterprise vendors are the benchmarks employers use when evaluating candidates for principal-level positions. Building a portfolio of large-scale architecture projects strengthens any application.
How much do principal solutions engineers make in New Jersey?
Principal solutions engineers in New Jersey earn a median of about $139,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $91,370 for the lowest 10% to over $191,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire principal solutions engineers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring principal solutions engineers in New Jersey right now include AIG, Agadia Systems, and Zelis Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's concentration of financial services firms, global technology consultancies, and telecommunications carriers means demand for this role is distributed across multiple industries rather than dominated by a single sector.
Which New Jersey cities have the most principal solutions engineer jobs?
Jersey City, Summit, and Morristown have the most principal solutions engineer openings in New Jersey. Newark and Jersey City benefit from proximity to major financial institutions and technology consultancies headquartered in the Greater New York metro, while the Route 1 corridor through Princeton and New Brunswick anchors a separate cluster of enterprise software, life sciences, and telecommunications employers with dedicated solutions engineering teams.
