Summary:
This SkillBridge opportunity is a 90-day training program that prepares transitioning service members for continued development toward a civilian career as a Procurement Specialist or in a related procurement, expediting, supplier coordination, or project support role. Participants will gain practical exposure to the procurement function supporting utility-scale renewable energy and construction projects, including solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, transmission and distribution, and other project scopes.

Under the mentorship of experienced procurement professionals, participants will learn how procurement supports project execution, schedule certainty, supplier performance, and risk mitigation. Training will include procurement systems and documentation, purchase order and subcontract tracking, supplier follow-up, delivery milestone monitoring, expediting logs, Project Procurement Plans, project-team coordination, and escalation of supplier or delivery risks.

Participants will observe and support procurement activities such as requests for proposal, bid evaluation, supplier communications, order acknowledgement, drawing and submittal tracking, fabrication progress, inspection and test milestones, shipping documentation, and delivery status updates. Assignments will progress from guided observation to supervised practice and increased ownership of low-risk tracking activities, with regular coaching and feedback from an assigned sponsor and mentor.

The program will also strengthen transferable skills in attention to detail, prioritization, business communication, relationship building, professional judgement, documentation accuracy, risk awareness, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. Participants will work with procurement, project management, engineering, construction, logistics, suppliers, subcontractors, and other internal stakeholders.

This opportunity is ideal for service members with experience in contracting, acquisition, procurement, supply chain, materiel management, logistics, expediting, project coordination, or supplier and contractor support. Relevant military backgrounds may include Army 51C Contracting Noncommissioned Officer and 92A Automated Logistical Specialist; Navy Logistics Specialist and Supply Corps roles; Marine Corps 3044 Operational Contract Support Specialist and 3043 Supply Chain and Materiel Management Specialist; Air Force 6C0X1 Contracting, 2S0X1 Materiel Management, and 64P Contracting Officer; Space Force 63A Acquisition Manager or Guardians with prior contracting, acquisition, materiel-management, or logistics assignments; and Coast Guard Storekeeper or acquisition personnel.

Other military occupations may be considered where the service member can demonstrate relevant experience in purchasing, supplier or contractor coordination, documentation, delivery tracking, risk escalation, or cross-functional project support.

Program details:

The training program is expected to combine office-based learning, virtual collaboration, project exposure, and supervised procurement activities. Anticipated program start date is Fall 2026. Candidates whose eligibility is after this window are still encouraged to apply.

Service members interested in a full-time position at the end of the program should note that the comparable Procurement Specialist role may require domestic travel of 16-30%. Participation in the program does not guarantee employment with RES. Service members must receive command approval to participate in the SkillBridge program.

SkillBridge participants are not employees of RES and are not eligible for compensation or employee benefits from RES.

The work environment and physical demands are representative of those the service member may encounter while participating in the training program. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Rarely: Climbing, crouching, kneeling, pulling/pushing/lifting between 5-15lbs., and stooping are required.
