Product Engineering Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product engineering manager in Texas?
Most product engineering managers in Texas follow a path from individual contributor engineer to tech lead before stepping into management. Texas does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers strongly prefer candidates with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program. Large Texas tech and defense employers typically promote from within or hire candidates who have completed formal leadership development rotations at companies with established engineering pipelines.
How much do product engineering managers make in Texas?
Product engineering managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire product engineering managers in Texas?
Employers hiring product engineering managers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of semiconductor, aerospace, and enterprise software companies means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than one dominant sector.
Which Texas cities have the most product engineering manager jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most product engineering manager openings in Texas. Austin leads because of its dense cluster of semiconductor and enterprise software companies, Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from corporate headquarters and defense contractors, and Houston's energy technology and aerospace industries sustain steady demand for product engineering leadership year-round.
Are there remote product engineering manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many engineering roles, since product engineering managers spend much of their time in planning, coordination, and review work that translates well to distributed environments. About 20% of product engineering manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting broad employer acceptance of flexible arrangements. The most remote-compatible parts of the role are roadmap planning, sprint ceremonies, and stakeholder communication, while hardware-involved programs tend to require more on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a product engineering manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a senior individual contributor role such as a systems engineer, software engineer, or hardware engineer into a team lead or technical program coordinator position at a Texas employer. Companies like Texas Instruments, Dell, and major Austin-area software firms run rotational engineering leadership programs and new-manager cohorts that give engineers their first direct reports. Building a portfolio that shows you have owned a feature or subsystem end-to-end, even informally, is the credential that most Texas hiring managers look for when considering first-time managers.
Where can I find and apply to product engineering manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to product engineering manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers across Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and other markets. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
