Project Program Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project program manager in Utah?
Most Utah employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, information systems, or a closely related field, combined with several years of progressively responsible project experience. Utah does not require a state-issued license for this role, but the Project Management Professional credential from PMI is the most recognized standard across Utah's defense, healthcare, and tech employers and significantly strengthens a candidacy at the senior level.
How much do project program managers make in Utah?
Project program managers in Utah earn a median of about $96,720 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,840 for the lowest 10% to over $159,240 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project program managers in Utah?
Utah project program manager roles are posted by University of Utah, Northrop Grumman, and Utah State University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's mix of defense contractors along the Wasatch Front, large healthcare networks, and Silicon Slopes technology companies means demand cuts across multiple industries with varying seniority requirements.
Which Utah cities have the most project program manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Hill AFB account for the largest share of project program manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives volume through its concentration of healthcare systems, financial services firms, and government contractors, while Provo and Lehi benefit from the Silicon Slopes technology corridor, where software companies and IT services firms maintain large project and program management functions.
Are there remote project program manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 29% of project program manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves coordination, reporting, and planning rather than physical presence. Program oversight, agile coaching, and portfolio management functions are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, though roles tied to construction, manufacturing, or classified defense work typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a project program manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a project coordinator or business analyst role within a Utah employer that already knows your work. Intermountain Health, the state of Utah, and larger Silicon Slopes firms regularly hire project coordinators as a feeder track into program management. Earning a CAPM credential from PMI and completing a recognized Agile or Scrum certification demonstrates initiative and opens doors at employers who prefer to grow managers internally rather than hire externally at the program level.
Where can I find and apply to project program manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to project program manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and preferences, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
