How do you become a research assistant in Utah?
Most research assistant positions in Utah require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as biology, psychology, public health, or a related discipline. Clinical research roles often expect familiarity with IRB protocols and Good Clinical Practice guidelines, and some positions at Intermountain Health or the University of Utah Health system may prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing a Clinical Research Coordinator credential through the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.
Which companies hire research assistants in Utah?

Utah's concentration of academic medical centers, life sciences firms, and federally funded research institutions means hiring is relatively steady throughout the year.
Which Utah cities have the most research assistant jobs?
Salt Lake City, Provo, and Murray account for the largest share of research assistant openings in Utah. Salt Lake City anchors the market through the University of Utah, Intermountain Health, and a growing biotech corridor, while Provo's concentration of higher education institutions and tech-adjacent research firms drives demand in Utah County, and Ogden benefits from Hill Air Force Base and Weber State University.

Yes, but they're less common than in fully desk-based fields, since many research assistant roles involve hands-on laboratory work, patient interaction, or on-site data collection. About 40% of research assistant openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the portion of positions focused on literature reviews, data analysis, and administrative research support that can be done off-site.
How can I get hired as a research assistant in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through undergraduate or post-baccalaureate research programs at Utah institutions, where volunteer or paid lab positions build the hands-on record employers expect. The University of Utah's Office of Undergraduate Research and Brigham Young University's Mentoring Environment Grant programs both place students with active faculty projects. Applying for research coordinator assistant or data entry roles at Intermountain Health or University of Utah Health is another concrete step, as these positions are designed for candidates with limited formal experience and often lead directly into full research assistant roles.
