Prudence is the next chapter for the space long known as Judge Roy Bean Saloon, named for the island across the bay. We're keeping what people have always loved about this corner of State Street: a comfortable bar, familiar faces, an easy place to gather. On top of that, we're building a chef-driven concept with an eclectic coastal aesthetic, farm-to-table ingredients, and top-quality food, rolling out over the next few weeks. We're looking for people who want to help shape that from the ground up, not just join after the dust settles, no corporate playbook, no cookie-cutter menu.
Our Mission
Prudence is rooted in Bristol, but open to everyone, a place locals can feel proud of, and a place people from across Rhode Island will want to come experience. We believe great food and great hospitality come from a small team that genuinely believes in what they're building together, not just clocking in and out. If you want to help bring better food, better drinks, and better hospitality to this space's next chapter, we want to hear from you.
General Manager, Front of House
We're looking for a hands-on GM to run front-of-house operations while protecting the quality and creativity that makes this place what it is. You'll work closely with our chef/owner on staffing, guest experience, and the bottom line, all while helping bring a new identity to life. This role is focused on the front of the house, back-of-house and kitchen operations are managed separately by our culinary team.
What you'll do:
- Oversee daily front-of-house operations
- Hire, train, develop and manage a small, high-performing front-of-house team
- Manage front-of-house vendor relationships
- Own front-of-house scheduling, and service standards
- Uphold service and hospitality standards that match the quality of the food
- Partner with ownership and the chef on guest experience, events, and long-term growth
What we're looking for:
- Several years of experience in the hospitality industry, with proven experience managing a restaurant or bar, ideally in an independent or chef-driven setting
- Strong grasp of P&L, labor, and cost management
- A working knowledge of wines and cocktails
- A genuine passion for farm-to-table sourcing, and elevated hospitality
- Clean, professional presentation and demeanor
- Ability to lead a small team and clearly communicate a vision
- Leadership style that's calm under pressure and respected by a team
- Someone who embraces a challenge
Bartenders
We are looking for bartenders who treat cocktails like a craft, not just a job, people who can build a thoughtful drink menu, talk confidently about ingredients and technique, and speak confidently about the menu offerings.
What you'll do:
- Craft and execute a seasonal, ingredient-driven seasonal cocktail program
- Maintain a polished, efficient bar during high-volume service
- Work to keep all prep and mise en place as fresh as possible
- Help develop new cocktails and seasonal menu updates
- Represent the restaurant's standards of quality and hospitality at every interaction
What we're looking for:
- Several years of experience in the hospitality industry, with solid experience in cocktail bartending
- Comfort selling and describing high-end, farm-to-table food
- Strong knowledge of spirits, technique, and current cocktail trends
- Clean, professional presentation and demeanor
- A team-first attitude, we're a small crew and everyone pitches in
Why work with us
- Small, independent operation, your voice and ideas actually matter here
- Ground-floor opportunity to help shape Prudence's new chef-driven, eclectic coastal concept on Narragansett Bay
- Work with high-quality, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients
- Be part of shaping the food and drink program, not just executing someone else's vision
- Competitive pay, based on experience
Prudence is an equal opportunity employer.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person

Restaurant General Manager Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant general manager in Rhode Island?
Most restaurant general managers in Rhode Island work their way up through assistant manager or kitchen supervisor roles at established operations, then step into a GM role once they have full-service experience under their belt. Rhode Island does not require a state-issued GM license, but the Rhode Island Department of Health mandates that at least one certified food safety manager be on staff, so holding a recognized food safety credential such as ServSafe is a practical requirement for most employers in the state.
Which companies hire restaurant general managers in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring restaurant general managers in Rhode Island right now include Taco Bell, Chow Fun Food, and Diegos Newport, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of hotel properties in Providence and Newport means hospitality groups with attached food and beverage outlets are among the most consistent sources of general manager openings in the state.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most restaurant general manager jobs?
Providence, Bristol, and Newport have the most restaurant general manager openings in Rhode Island. Providence drives the largest share of listings because it is the state's primary commercial and tourism center, while Warwick's cluster of hotel corridors and retail dining along Route 2 and Newport's year-round and seasonal fine dining scene create steady demand outside the capital.
Are there remote restaurant general manager jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of restaurant general manager openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how fundamentally on-site the role is. The portions of the job that can occasionally be done remotely include corporate reporting, vendor negotiations, and scheduling for multi-unit operators, but floor presence, team oversight, and guest experience management keep the large majority of roles fully on-site.
How can I get hired as a restaurant general manager in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to join a full-service independent or chain operation in Providence or Warwick as a shift supervisor or assistant manager, where you gain hands-on P&L exposure and team leadership experience. Rhode Island's Johnson and Wales University alumni network is a recognized pipeline into management roles at local hospitality groups, and completing a ServSafe Food Safety Manager certification through the Rhode Island Department of Health-approved program strengthens any application at that level.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit.
