Restaurant Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant manager in Michigan?
Most restaurant managers in Michigan start in hourly front-of-house or kitchen roles and advance through shift lead or assistant manager positions before taking on a full management title. Michigan does not require a state-issued manager license, but employers consistently expect completion of responsible alcohol service training recognized by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. A degree or certificate in hospitality management from institutions like Michigan State University or Washtenaw Community College strengthens candidates significantly.
Which companies hire restaurant managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring restaurant managers in Michigan right now include KFC, 7-Eleven, and Wendy's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Michigan's mix of major casino resorts, national chain headquarters, and independent full-service dining groups means openings appear across a wide range of concepts and management structures.
Which Michigan cities have the most restaurant manager jobs?
Detroit, Lansing, and Ann Arbor consistently post the most restaurant manager openings in Michigan. Detroit drives volume through its dense concentration of hotel food and beverage operations, casino dining, and a growing independent restaurant scene, while Grand Rapids and Lansing generate steady demand from regional chains, university-area dining, and convention center hospitality.
Are there remote restaurant manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. About 3% of restaurant manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how fundamentally on-site the role is. The portions of the job most likely to be handled off-site are scheduling, vendor communications, and reporting, while floor oversight, service execution, and staff coaching require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a restaurant manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a shift supervisor or assistant manager role at a high-volume Michigan operation and building toward promotion from within. Large Michigan employers such as MGM Grand Detroit and Marriott properties run structured leadership development programs that move hourly staff into management tracks. Completing a hospitality certificate at a Michigan community college and earning a Michigan Liquor Control Commission responsible service credential are the credentials that most consistently open doors without prior management experience.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to restaurant manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across full-service, quick-service, hotel, and casino dining operations. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
