Restaurant Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant manager in Virginia?
Most restaurant managers in Virginia move up through hands-on food service roles, starting as shift supervisors or assistant managers before taking on full management responsibility. Virginia does not require a state-issued management license for the role itself, but the Virginia Department of Health requires at least one certified food protection manager on site, so holding a ServSafe Food Manager certification or equivalent gives candidates a clear hiring advantage. A degree in hospitality management or business strengthens candidacy at larger corporate employers.
Which companies hire restaurant managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring restaurant managers in Virginia right now include Cook Out Restaurants, Taco Bell, and Bob Evans Restaurants, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of hotel brands, resort properties, and full-service casual dining chains in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and the Hampton Roads region keeps employer demand broad and relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which Virginia cities have the most restaurant manager jobs?
The cities with the most restaurant manager openings in Virginia are Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk. Northern Virginia's proximity to Washington, D.C. drives the highest overall volume through its dense suburban dining and hospitality market, while Richmond's growing independent and corporate restaurant scene and Virginia Beach's year-round tourism activity sustain strong demand in those metros.
Are there remote restaurant manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. Restaurant management is an on-site, hands-on role, so the work is almost always tied to a physical location. About 0% of restaurant manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to involve regional or multi-unit oversight, operations consulting, or corporate training functions rather than day-to-day floor management.
How can I get hired as a restaurant manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up internally from a front-of-house or kitchen role into a shift lead or assistant manager position. Large Virginia employers such as Darden Restaurants and hotel food and beverage operations at Marriott properties frequently hire assistant managers and shift supervisors from within, offering structured development programs that lead to general manager roles. Earning a ServSafe Food Manager certification before applying signals readiness and meets the Virginia Department of Health's on-site requirement, giving entry-level candidates a concrete credential to lead with.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to restaurant manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, location preference, and the type of operation you want to manage, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
