Sales Manager Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales manager in South Dakota?
Most sales manager roles in South Dakota do not require a state-issued license, but employers in regulated sectors like insurance or financial products expect candidates to hold or quickly obtain relevant industry credentials such as a South Dakota-issued insurance producer license through the Division of Insurance. The typical path is a bachelor's degree in business or a related field, followed by several years in a quota-carrying sales role before moving into a team leadership position.
How much do sales managers make in South Dakota?
Sales managers in South Dakota earn a median of about $136,360 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,510 for the lowest 10% to over $219,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales managers in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring sales managers in South Dakota include AutoZone, Anytime Fitness, and Target, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's mix of regional financial institutions, large health systems, and agriculture-focused businesses means sales management openings appear across a wider range of industries than the state's size might suggest.
Which South Dakota cities have the most sales manager jobs?
Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Spearfish have the most sales manager openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls dominates because it is the state's largest commercial center and home to major financial services, healthcare, and retail employers, while Rapid City drives volume through its tourism economy and western South Dakota distribution networks, and Aberdeen reflects hiring from its regional manufacturing and agricultural supply base.
Are there remote sales manager jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since sales management often involves in-person coaching, territory visits, and customer meetings. About 27% of sales manager openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is meaningful but not the norm. Strategic and inside-sales leadership roles are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a sales manager in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to build a strong record as an individual sales contributor at a South Dakota employer and then pursue an internal promotion into a team lead or assistant manager role. Large employers like Sanford Health and regional banks in Sioux Falls often post associate or team lead openings designed for high-performing reps without prior management experience. Earning a South Dakota insurance producer license or a recognized sales credential can accelerate that move.
Where can I find and apply to sales manager jobs in South Dakota?
