This position is funded for a specific purpose. The Sponsored Term appointment is like a probationary appointment. The position and the appointment will expire upon loss or reduction of state or federal funding, or when special project or program for which the position was created has been completed.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position will provide direct information, assistance and referrals to victims of crime that have concerns or inquiries related to New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) incarcerated offenders or offenders under supervision of the Probation Parole Division. The position will respond to inquiries from victims, victim advocates, and other victim service agencies. The position will be responsible for educating victims about the corrections system, assisting with unwanted inmate correspondence, providing projected release dates, responding to restitution inquiries, assisting with safety planning, registering victims on the Victim Notification Everyday (VINE) system, providing information on victims rights and providing referrals. This position will be responsible for assisting crime victims during the parole board hearing process. This includes explaining the hearing procedures, guiding victims on how to write a Victim Impact Statement, and preparing them to testify before the New Mexico Adult Parole Board. The responsibilities include the coordination of video appearances for victims at the hearings, accompanying them virtually, and providing emotional support and debriefing following the hearing. Additional responsibilities include tracking the inmate's release status, conducting follow-up communication upon the inmates' release, providing information regarding conditions of release. This position will be responsible for supporting the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant compliance and reporting.

Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
