Utopia HR Solutions is a boutique HR consulting firm serving small and mid-sized businesses across the United States in construction, skilled trades, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, nonprofits, and professional services. Unlike a PEO, we deliver customized, hands-on HR support. We build the documentation, fix the gaps, and stay with clients through implementation. Nearly all of our business comes from client referrals.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a full-time, client-facing HR Consultant to work directly with our Founder & Managing Director supporting a portfolio of clients. You will handle day-to-day HR questions, conduct HR audits, build compliant documentation, and support investigations, compensation analysis, and strategic projects. You'll also help grow the firm by building client relationships and bringing in new business, with commission and bonus opportunities tied to results. This is a W-2 employee position with direct mentorship and a path to Senior HR Consultant.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Serve as a day-to-day HR point of contact for assigned clients Advise owners and managers on employee relations, performance, discipline, leave, and terminations Conduct HR audits covering policies, handbooks, personnel files, I-9s, classification, and wage-and-hour practices
- Write clear audit reports with prioritized findings and action plans Support workplace investigations: schedule interviews, take notes, organize evidence, and draft summaries
- Gather market data and prepare compensation benchmarks, pay bands, and salary ranges
- Track and report HR metrics such as turnover, retention, and time-to-fill
- Draft and update handbooks, policies, job descriptions, offer letters, and HR forms using SHRM best practices
- Help deliver manager training and handbook rollouts, virtually and on-site
- Use AI tools daily to research, draft, and analyze, while verifying accuracy and protecting confidential data
- Monitor employment law changes in the states where our clients operate
- Build relationships with business owners, referral partners, and professional networks to generate new clients
- Recommend additional Utopia HR services to existing clients and help prepare proposals
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5-7+ years of progressive HR generalist experience
- SHRM-CP certification
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Client-facing HR experience with a polished, professional presence
- Hands-on experience with employee relations, policies, handbooks, onboarding, and compliance
- Exposure to HR audits, investigations, or compensation benchmarking
- Working knowledge of federal employment law (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII) and the ability to research state laws
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) in your work is required Strong Microsoft 365 skills, especially Word and Excel
- Comfort building relationships and spotting new business opportunities
- Highly organized and self-directed in a remote setting
- Able to travel occasionally for on-site client work

- Business development or account management experience
- Experience with small businesses in construction, trades, transportation, manufacturing, or healthcare
- Multi-state compliance experience
- HRIS and payroll platform experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Fully remote from a private, quiet home office with reliable high-speed internet
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, Eastern Time business hours
- Occasional travel to client sites
COMPENSATION
- $45,000 – $50,000 base salary, based on experience
- Performance bonus tied to client retention and satisfaction
