Staff Accountant Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Louisiana?
Most staff accountant roles in Louisiana require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. Louisiana employers strongly favor candidates who are eligible for or actively pursuing CPA licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Certified Public Accountants, which oversees education requirements, the Uniform CPA Exam, and experience hours. Candidates with a degree and evidence of CPA candidacy are consistently prioritized, especially in healthcare, energy, and public accounting firms headquartered in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring staff accountants in Louisiana include Crest Industries, Home Health, and Golfballs, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Louisiana's energy, healthcare, and higher education sectors are among the most consistent sources of staff accountant openings in the state year-round.
Which Louisiana cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette have the most staff accountant openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge leads because it is home to major energy companies, state government agencies, and Louisiana State University, while New Orleans draws strong demand from its large healthcare systems, hospitality conglomerates, and regional public accounting firms, and Shreveport adds volume from its healthcare and gaming industries in northwest Louisiana.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and they are more common than in many other fields since staff accounting is largely desk-based and analytical work. About 43% of staff accountant openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a real shift toward flexible arrangements even at traditional employers. The tasks most likely to stay remote are financial reporting, reconciliations, and budgeting, while roles requiring physical access to documents or on-site audit support tend to stay in the office.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounting internship or rotational program at a large Louisiana employer while still completing your degree. Healthcare systems like Ochsner Health and LCMC Health, state agencies in Baton Rouge, and regional public accounting firms across Louisiana regularly hire accounting graduates into staff or junior accountant roles with no prior full-time experience. Coming in from a bookkeeping, accounts payable, or payroll position is a recognized lateral move, and demonstrating active CPA candidacy through the Louisiana State Board of Certified Public Accountants gives candidates a strong edge over the competition.
Where can I find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
