Staff Accountant Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Wisconsin?
Most Wisconsin employers require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field as the starting point for a staff accountant role. While Wisconsin does not require a license to work as a staff accountant, obtaining a CPA credential through the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services strengthens your candidacy significantly. Candidates sit for the Uniform CPA Examination and meet Wisconsin's education and experience requirements to earn licensure, which opens doors to senior accounting positions across the state.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Wisconsin?
Companies currently hiring staff accountants in Wisconsin include MBE CPAs, CPA Firm, S.C., and KerberRose S.C., per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Wisconsin's strong base of manufacturing headquarters, regional hospital systems, and insurance carriers means that staff accountant openings are distributed across both large corporations and mid-sized regional employers throughout the state.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
Milwaukee, La Crosse, and Madison have the most staff accountant openings in Wisconsin. Milwaukee drives the largest share of postings as the state's commercial center, anchored by its concentration of financial institutions, manufacturers, and healthcare systems, while Madison's government agencies, university operations, and growing tech sector sustain consistent demand, and Green Bay's manufacturing and regional corporate base rounds out the top markets.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since staff accountant work is largely desk-based and software-driven. About 48% of staff accountant openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Tasks like financial reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis are especially well-suited to remote arrangements, while audit support and inventory-related accounting tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a staff accountant role through a new-graduate or rotational program at one of Wisconsin's large employers in manufacturing, healthcare, or insurance. Kohler Co., Advocate Aurora Health, and American Family Insurance are examples of Wisconsin employers with structured finance and accounting development programs for recent graduates. Lateral entry from accounts payable, accounts receivable, or bookkeeping roles is common, and actively pursuing the CPA exam while in an entry role signals to Wisconsin employers that you are committed to the profession.
