Accounting Manager Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting manager in Wisconsin?
Most accounting manager roles in Wisconsin require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and a CPA license issued or recognized by the Wisconsin Examining Board of Accountants under the Department of Safety and Professional Services. Candidates typically build several years of experience in staff or senior accountant roles before moving into management. A CPA is not always mandatory for every employer, but it is the most consistent differentiator in Wisconsin job listings and nearly universal among candidates advancing to controller or director tracks.
Which companies hire accounting managers in Wisconsin?
Employers hiring accounting managers in Wisconsin right now include MBE CPAs, Berndt CPA, and KI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Wisconsin's mix of large manufacturers, regional healthcare systems, and financial institutions generates steady demand for accounting managers across both corporate headquarters and divisional finance teams.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most accounting manager jobs?
Madison, Appleton, and Milwaukee have the most accounting manager openings in Wisconsin. Milwaukee leads because it is the state's largest corporate and financial hub, home to major manufacturers and insurance companies, while Madison's concentration of state government agencies, university system operations, and growing tech sector drives consistent demand, and Green Bay's paper, packaging, and food-industry employers anchor activity in the northeastern part of the state.
Are there remote accounting manager jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, and more than most fields, because accounting manager work is largely desk-based and centered on financial systems that can be accessed remotely. About 47% of accounting manager openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader adoption of flexible work in corporate finance. Roles focused on financial reporting, budgeting, and ERP-based close cycles are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements, while positions requiring hands-on oversight of on-site accounting staff tend to stay in-office.
How can I get hired as a accounting manager in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a senior accountant or accounting supervisor role first, then stepping into management once you have demonstrated leadership over a close cycle or a small team. Large Wisconsin employers such as Kohler, Advocate Aurora Health, and Associated Bank run rotational finance programs and hire new graduates into staff accountant roles that feed into management tracks over three to five years. Earning your CPA through the Wisconsin Examining Board of Accountants while in a staff role is the clearest credential signal, and experience with a major ERP system and ownership of at least one month-end close makes candidates competitive for first-time manager openings.
Where can I find and apply to accounting manager jobs in Wisconsin?
