Most firms hire candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, or a quantitative field, and a graduate degree such as an MBA from a California university strengthens competitiveness significantly. Building a portfolio of case work, earning a Project Management Professional credential, or completing a structured consulting certificate program from an accredited California institution all improve candidacy.

Strategy consultants in California earn a median of about $101,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,360 for the lowest 10% to over $174,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire strategy consultants in California?
