Job Purpose
As an Engineering Team Lead, you will research, develop, and evaluate new technology, processes, or equipment in response to an assigned goal or to solve a specific problem. You will also oversee engineering assignments for all product development and product support functions that are assigned to the team.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of embedded software engineers, fostering a high-performing, collaborative environment.
- Mentor and coach team members to advance technical and professional growth.
- Manage staffing, workload prioritization, and resource planning to meet business goals.
- Conduct performance reviews, support goal setting, and contribute to talent development.
- Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership across design, development, and delivery of embedded software.
- Serve as an SME and guide architecture and design decisions.
- Lead design reviews and ensure alignment with standards and best practices.
- Drive resolution of complex issues across hardware/software interfaces.
- Contribute hands-on development as needed.
- Stay current with emerging tools, technologies, and engineering practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with systems, architecture, UX, TPM, development, and test teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Ensure alignment on requirements, priorities, and design across teams.
- Lead and participate in Agile ceremonies (PI Planning, Sprint Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives).
- Collaborate with TPMs, system engineers, architects, UX, testers, and developers to refine requirements, improve clarity, and testability.
- Lead or support root cause analysis and drive resolution of systemic issues across teams.
Quality, Process & Delivery
- Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality software with proper documentation and traceability.
- Drive improvements to increase efficiency, reduce defects, and enhance quality.
- Oversee test strategy, execution, defect management, and regression validation.
- Ensure adherence to defined workflows and development processes.
- Plan and drive feature delivery and releases to meet schedule and scope commitments.
- Track progress, manage risks, and resolve issues to maintain delivery timelines.
- Coordinate key deliverables and dependencies across teams.
- Provide clear status updates, including progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
- 1–3 years of leadership experience (team lead, technical lead, feature software lead, or project lead).
- Strong experience with embedded systems, including real-time or safety-critical environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ (or equivalent embedded software languages).
- Experience with software development lifecycle processes, including requirements, design, implementation, and testing.
- Experience working in Agile/SAFe environments and participating in Agile ceremonies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical decision-making.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agricultural, automotive, or off-highway vehicle systems.
- Familiarity with control systems, guidance systems, or autonomous technologies.
- Experience with model-based design, simulation, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Experience working with distributed/global engineering teams.
- Exposure to systems engineering practices, requirements tools (e.g., Polarion), or Agile tools (e.g., Jira).
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives or process improvement efforts.
Pay Transparency
The annual salary for this role is $137,475 - $183,300 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
