Technology Director Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technology director in Ohio?
The path to a technology director role in Ohio typically begins with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering, often followed by a master's degree or an MBA with a technology management concentration. Ohio has no state-issued license specific to this role, so employers look for a progressive record of technical leadership, experience managing teams, and demonstrated ownership of IT strategy or infrastructure programs at organizations in sectors like healthcare, finance, or manufacturing.
How much do technology directors make in Ohio?
Technology directors in Ohio earn a median of about $163,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,900 for the lowest 10% to over $233,510 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technology directors in Ohio?
Employers hiring technology directors in Ohio right now include Valley Interior Systems, Vaco, and Amgen, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's concentration of large insurance carriers, integrated health systems, and Fortune 500 manufacturers means demand for technology director talent is consistent year-round across the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most technology director jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Akron hold the most technology director openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its dense cluster of insurance, financial services, and tech-forward retailers headquartered there, while Cleveland's health system and advanced manufacturing base drives demand in the northeast, and Cincinnati's mix of consumer goods corporations and regional banks sustains consistent hiring in the southwest.
Are there remote technology director jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of technology director openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves strategic planning, stakeholder meetings, and vendor oversight rather than hands-on physical work. Roles focused on cloud strategy, cybersecurity leadership, and enterprise architecture tend to offer the greatest remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a technology director in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a senior individual-contributor role such as systems architect, IT manager, or cybersecurity engineer into a team lead position at a large Ohio employer. Health systems like Cleveland Clinic and OhioHealth, along with major insurers headquartered in Columbus, regularly hire IT managers and project leads who can grow into director-level roles. Earning a PMP certification or a cloud platform credential alongside a master's degree in technology management strengthens a candidate's profile for that step up.
Where can I find and apply to technology director jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to technology director jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly without creating a profile or going through a separate sign-up process.
