Which food and beverage companies in California sponsor H-1B visas?
Several large food and beverage employers in California have filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications, including The Wine Group, Treasury Wine Estates, Wonderful Company, McCormick, and various food technology companies headquartered in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Sponsorship activity is concentrated among larger manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, and companies with established HR and legal infrastructure to manage the petition process.
Which cities in California have the most food and beverage H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area leads for food technology and innovation roles, with companies in San Jose, Oakland, and South San Francisco frequently filing H-1B petitions. Los Angeles has strong sponsorship activity in food manufacturing and distribution. The Central Valley, including Fresno and Modesto, concentrates agricultural processing and beverage production roles. Sacramento also has a growing presence in food science and regulatory affairs positions.
What types of food and beverage roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in California?
Roles that qualify must meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard, requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the position. In food and beverage, this includes food scientists, flavorists, quality assurance engineers, regulatory affairs specialists, supply chain analysts, and R&D chemists. Are there any California-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in food and beverage?
California's strict employment laws, including restrictions on non-compete agreements, can make it more straightforward to change employers after receiving H-1B sponsorship, since non-competes are generally unenforceable in the state. California also has a large regulatory affairs ecosystem tied to the FDA's presence in the region, creating demand for specialists in food labeling and compliance. Employers in California tend to be familiar with H-1B processes given the state's broader tech and life sciences sponsorship activity.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B food & beverage jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
