Which legal companies in Illinois sponsor work visas?
Major Chicago law firms like Kirkland & Ellis, Sidley Austin, Baker McKenzie, and Winston & Strawn frequently sponsor H-1B visa and O-1 visas for international attorneys. Corporate legal departments at Boeing (Chicago), Abbott (North Chicago), and Caterpillar (Peoria) also sponsor visas for in-house counsel roles. The platform shows verified sponsorship opportunities at Chicago law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies. You can filter by visa type, experience level, and specific practice areas to find relevant positions throughout the state.
What visa types are most common for legal jobs in Illinois?
H-1B visas are most common for attorney positions at large law firms and corporate legal departments. O-1 visas are used for attorneys with exceptional achievements in specialized areas like international law or intellectual property. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican lawyers in certain roles. L-1 visas are common for international law firm transfers to Chicago offices.
Which Illinois cities have the most legal visa sponsorship opportunities?

Peoria has corporate legal roles at companies like Caterpillar. Rock Island and smaller cities have fewer opportunities but may sponsor for specialized government or corporate counsel positions.

What is the prevailing wage for sponsored legal jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
