ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for the engineering and design requirements for new and existing transmission lines throughout the AES Indiana system. Provide assigned engineering design for all or parts of transmission lines and structures, carrying out specific job assignments including: preparation of specifications, evaluations of proposals, design of physical line routing layouts and support systems, assist in procuring R-O-W thru private property, works with LIDAR data scans, construction management and field engineering. Provide support for projects of various complexities and assist with project documentation procedures. Respond to emergencies including long duration customer outages and storm service restoration.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specific assignments by learning and applying effective engineering, planning and organizing skills.
- Perform engineering calculations involving less complicated engineering applications of transmission line support systems.
- Assist in the planning, design and construction management of transmission line projects.
- Assist more experienced engineers in root cause failure analysis to avoid future failures.
- Work under supervision of experienced engineers, receives guidance in the use of AES Indiana engineering and construction standards as well as utility industry nomenclature and guidelines.
- Participate in a career development program to increase value to Company and self - including participation in professional organizations.
- Assist in maintaining transmission design standards and information systems.
- Assist Storm Teams and System Operating to re-energize transmission lines, substation feeders and restore service to customers.
- Complete assigned special projects including research, analysis and recommendations to Management.
- Perform other work as assigned by Manager.
- Work with suppliers to procure transmission line structures and equipment.
- Work with T&D Planning to implement proposed transmission line improvements.
- Consult with Contractors, Line Maintenance group and other technical groups to provide field construction support.
- Advise System Operating on new transmission system functions/capabilities.
- Provide reports to Project Management on projected and actual labor hours, cash disbursements and storeroom charges.
- Provide Purchasing with Vendor qualifications and recommended spend.
- Assist Property Accounting with project close out and units of property classification on new transmission equipment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluently communicate electrical technical knowledge with other Engineers.
- Provide related information to non-technical coworkers.
- Understand relevant terms and exchange information with other support areas including Project Management, System Operating, Plant Accounting, T&D Planning, Test Department, Sub. Services and Major Account Reps.
- Must be able to effectively present facts based on knowledge or research and champion assignments to conclusion.
- Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering Required.
