Which education companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Maryland?
Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland are among the most consistent LCA filers for education-sector STEM roles in Maryland. Federal contractors with education divisions, such as Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SAIC, also sponsor F-1 STEM OPT workers in roles involving data analysis, instructional technology, and educational research. Community college systems and edtech firms operating in the Baltimore-Washington corridor round out the employer pool.
Which cities in Maryland have the most education F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore and College Park account for the largest share of education F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship activity in Maryland. Baltimore's concentration of universities and healthcare-education institutions drives consistent demand, while College Park benefits from the University of Maryland's research infrastructure. Rockville and Bethesda see additional activity from federal education contractors and research organizations operating near the D.C. border.
What types of education roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must appear on the official STEM Designated Degree Program List and be directly related to the graduate's qualifying STEM degree. In Maryland's education sector, qualifying positions commonly include data analyst roles in higher education administration, instructional design technologists, educational software engineers, institutional research analysts, and bioinformatics specialists at university research centers. The role must be paid and supervised by an E-Verify enrolled employer.
How do I find education F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Maryland?

This saves significant time compared to manually searching DOL disclosure data. Filter by Maryland and the education industry to surface institutions like Johns Hopkins, UMD, and federal education contractors that have a documented pattern of sponsoring F-1 STEM OPT candidates for research, data, and technology roles.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Maryland's education sector?
Maryland's proximity to federal agencies, including the Department of Education and NIH, means many education employers operate under federal contractor requirements, which mandate E-Verify enrollment. This actually broadens STEM OPT eligibility since E-Verify enrollment is a prerequisite for STEM OPT extensions. Maryland's strong public university system also means many sponsoring employers are familiar with the STEM OPT training plan requirements under the formal mentoring agreement process overseen by the DSO.
