Which energy companies in Massachusetts sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Massachusetts energy employers with documented LCA filing history include Eversource Energy, National Grid, Avangrid, and Liberty Utilities. Offshore wind developers active in the state, including Vineyard Wind and SouthCoast Wind, have also hired for STEM-eligible engineering and data roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by role and business unit, so reviewing each employer's OFLC disclosure data gives the clearest picture of actual filing activity.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge concentrate the greatest share of energy STEM OPT roles, particularly in clean energy startups, grid analytics, and energy policy research tied to institutions like MIT and Harvard. Worcester supports utility and power engineering roles through National Grid's regional operations. Fall River and New Bedford are emerging hubs for offshore wind supply chain and project engineering positions connected to South Coast development activity.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that typically qualify share a common thread: they require a STEM-designated degree from an accredited U.S. institution and involve applying that technical training directly. In the energy sector, this includes electrical and mechanical engineering positions, power systems analysis, grid modeling, environmental data science, renewable energy project engineering, and energy storage research. O*NET occupation profiles can help confirm whether a specific job title falls within a STEM-designated SOC code.
How do I find energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for energy employers in Massachusetts who have LCA filing history supporting F-1 STEM OPT candidates, saving you from sorting through postings where sponsorship is unclear. Because the platform draws on DOL Labor Condition Application data, you can see which Massachusetts energy companies have actually filed for STEM roles rather than relying on job description language alone.
Are there Massachusetts-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in energy?
Massachusetts has an active E-Verify adoption environment, and STEM OPT employers are federally required to be enrolled in E-Verify before a student can start the extension period. The state's offshore wind build-out, supported by state procurement mandates, has expanded the pipeline of engineering and project roles that qualify. Students should confirm with their DSO that their degree's CIP code aligns with the specific energy role before applying, as mismatches can complicate STEM OPT eligibility.
