Search Distribution & Wholesale Jobs in MichiganDistribution & Wholesale OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
Which distribution and wholesale companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Michigan?
Michigan-based distributors and wholesalers that have historically hired international students on F-1 OPT include Gordon Food Service, Penske Logistics, and Spartan Nash. Larger national operators with Michigan facilities, such as Cardinal Health and U.S. Foods, have also supported OPT workers in supply chain and operations roles. Sponsorship availability varies by role, location, and business need, so confirming directly with each employer is important.
Which cities in Michigan have the most distribution and wholesale F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro suburbs, including Livonia, Troy, and Warren, concentrate the highest volume of distribution and wholesale activity in Michigan, driven by automotive supply chains and regional freight networks. Grand Rapids is a strong secondary market, anchored by food distribution and consumer goods wholesale. Lansing and Flint also have notable warehousing and distribution infrastructure that generates OPT-eligible openings.
What types of distribution and wholesale roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly align with F-1 OPT in this sector include supply chain analyst, logistics coordinator, procurement specialist, inventory management associate, and operations analyst. These positions generally require a relevant degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field. STEM OPT extension applicants should confirm that their specific role and employer meet the STEM OPT training plan requirements before accepting an offer.
How do I find distribution and wholesale F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, including F-1 OPT, and by industry and state. Searching for distribution and wholesale roles in Michigan on Migrate Mate surfaces employers that have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving significant time compared to manually screening general job boards. Pairing that search with outreach to Michigan-based logistics and wholesale companies directly can improve your chances further.
Are there any Michigan-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in distribution and wholesale?
Michigan's distribution sector is heavily tied to automotive manufacturing supply chains, which creates demand for supply chain and operations talent but also means hiring cycles can follow automotive production schedules. F-1 OPT holders should ensure their role is directly related to their degree field, as required by USCIS. Students pursuing STEM OPT extensions should confirm that their employer is E-Verify enrolled, a firm requirement for the 24-month extension regardless of company size.
