COMPENSATION
- The pay range is $98,000.00 - $176,000.00
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Senior Engineer on our Network Edge LAN Switching team, you will help evolve the Switching across all of Stores, Distribution Centers, and Headquarters locations. The Edge Switching platform is the critical infrastructure that is essential to help Target deliver on its purpose “To help all families discover the joy of everyday life.” We are the pathways that connect our Target Guest and over 350,000 Team Members to our Target Tech delivered Services and Applications. This team is building the network of the future at Target through adopting open source operating systems and further developing them to meet Target’s needs.
As a Senior Engineer on the Network – Edge Switching team you will:
- Be a key contributor to designing, building, and deploying the Switching Fabrics at Target.
- Partner with other engineers to ensure we build quality products.
- Use your talents to help improve the efficiency of our Network Fabrics through automation.
- Partner with other teams to design new networks and determine migration plans from existing environment to new environments.

TECHNOLOGY:
- Software Development in Python
- Switching Operating Systems: Cumulus, SONiC, Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS
- Network Protocols: BGP, Spanning Tree, LLDP, MCLAG, LACP, and even some EIGRP
- Metrics visualization with tools like Grafana
ABOUT YOU
Required:
- 4 year degree or equivalent experience
- 2-5+ years of Networking Experience
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of Network Switching topologies both L2 networks and L3 Networks.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of L2/L3/L4 Networking Protocols BGP, Spanning Tree, LACP, VRRP, and MCLAG.
- Experience utilizing CI/CD technologies (Git, Jenkins/Drone)
- Experience with programming languages in either python, java, or go
- Demonstrate some proficiency with Linux Operating Systems
- Understands the concepts of network design and architecture of networks
- Produces clear technical documentation to support systems, designs, and operational processes
- Troubleshoot and resolves routine and moderately complex technical issues with minimal assistance
- Collaborates effectively within the team and supports shared priorities
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth
Preferred:
- Experience using configuration management technologies like Ansible or Saltstack
- Experience with EVPN and VXLAN
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
