Which agriculture companies sponsor H-2B visas in New York?
New York employers with documented H-2B filing history in agriculture include fruit and vegetable farms across the Hudson Valley, nurseries and sod operations on Long Island, and vineyard operations in the Finger Lakes and North Fork wine regions. Larger produce distributors and Christmas tree farms in upstate counties also appear regularly in DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data as seasonal H-2B sponsors.
Which cities in New York have the most agriculture H-2B sponsorship jobs?
H-2B agriculture sponsorship in New York is concentrated outside the major metros. The Hudson Valley corridor, covering Ulster, Dutchess, and Columbia counties, generates consistent seasonal demand. The Finger Lakes region around Geneva and Watkins Glen has significant vineyard and winery sponsorship activity. Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties are home to nurseries and turf operations that regularly file H-2B petitions.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B covers temporary, non-agricultural labor in a legal sense, but many farm-adjacent roles qualify, including nursery workers, greenhouse laborers, landscape and sod installation crews, and packinghouse sorters. Strictly seasonal field crop harvesting may fall under the H-2A visa program instead. Roles that qualify for H-2B are typically tied to a defined peak season the employer can document, such as planting, harvest, or holiday tree sales.
How do I find agriculture H-2B sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate surfaces verified H-2B employer filing history for agriculture roles across New York, so you can see which farms, nurseries, and vineyard operations have sponsored workers in the past rather than guessing. Filter by state and visa type to focus on New York agriculture employers with active sponsorship records. DOL's OFLC disclosure data underpins the listings, giving you a factual starting point for outreach.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for H-2B agriculture sponsorship?
New York has relatively strong worker protection laws that apply alongside federal H-2B requirements, including housing and transportation provisions some employers must meet for seasonal staff. The state's seasonal agricultural calendar is compressed compared to southern states, so petition timelines are often tight around spring and fall peaks. Employers must still obtain DOL certification before USCIS can approve H-2B petitions, and the annual cap applies regardless of state.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B agriculture jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
