Overview
The Director, Origination is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with market participants and relevant end-users. The position will be responsible for sourcing and structuring offtake agreements including PPAs, Utility RFPs, and bilateral offtake agreements. This position will work closely with the entire Revenue team as well as members of the Development and Finance teams at Cypress Creek Renewables. The role offers the opportunity to support the company’s growth by delivering renewable energy solutions to customers across the country. The position will provide critical insight into customer needs to help focus the company’s customer-led development strategy and product innovation. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing commercial team actively advancing renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities
- Build upon existing customer relationships and develop new relationships across load-serving entities and data center customers
- Manage customer engagement and qualification of opportunities
- Drive internal and external processes related to offtake opportunities, including RFP engagements with regulated utilities and bilateral offtake negotiations
- Develop and execute origination strategy, with a focus on delivering holistic power solutions to large-load customers
- Contribute to marketing efforts and customer outreach to communicate key attributes of product offerings
- Leverage the company’s greenfield pipeline and existing fleet of solar and battery storage assets to structure value-added products for customers
- Support the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of long-term PPAs, VPPAs, and innovative commercial structures with corporate customers to enable solar and storage development while meeting customer sustainability goals
- Identify customer opportunities and support pricing, structuring, and negotiation of offtake agreements
- Represent the company in bilateral customer meetings and at industry events
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Revenue, Development, Project Finance, Fleet, and Solutions
- Prepare internal analyses, memos, and presentations, and manage CRM inputs
- Stay informed on market trends impacting renewable development and customer opportunities
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
One or more of the following experiences is required (multiple are a strong plus):
- Experience originating and negotiating bilateral, term transactions in organized power markets
- Experience originating and negotiating bilateral, term transactions in regulated power markets
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with an IPP, power marketing firm, corporate energy end-user, utility, or consultant with direct customer engagement
- Experience trading within U.S. regional transmission organizations (RTOs) or independent system operators (ISOs)
- Experience delivering power solutions to data center customers
- Experience supplying load or procuring power as an end-user
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years of experience with an IPP, power marketing firm, corporate energy end-user, utility, or consulting firm with direct customer engagement
- Proven experience sourcing and closing commercial deals
- Experience managing and growing customer relationships
- Knowledge of and experience with data center power procurement; established relationships in this space are highly desirable
- Existing network of potential customers (utilities, cooperatives, end-users, LSEs)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. energy markets, RTO operations, and electric transmission
- Understanding of the physical transmission system and long-term procurement required to enable generation projects
- Knowledge of natural gas markets and physical pipeline infrastructure
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
- Experience leading contractual analysis and proposal development
- Demonstrated ability to originate, structure, negotiate, and execute PPAs in coordination with customers, internal stakeholders, and external advisors
- Ability to identify and manage risks across various offtake structures
- Strong commercial judgment balancing customer needs with business objectives
- Professional presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of renewable generation technologies, particularly solar and battery storage
- Willingness and ability to travel as required

LOCATION
The preferred location for this role is one of our office locations: New York City, NY, Washington DC or Chicago, IL. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office schedule of three days per week.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for the position is $215,000-$245,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
