INTRODUCTION
Korn Ferry has partnered with a leading New York–based, real estate-focused investment and operating company to recruit a Director of Legal, reporting directly to the entity President.
The company owns and operates a highly creative, experience driven portfolio across Manhattan and Brooklyn, with assets spanning office, hospitality, members clubs, chef led dining, wellness concepts, and flexible cultural and event spaces. The platform is known for transforming real estate into innovative, design forward destinations at the intersection of art, culture, fashion, food, and technology.
This is a hands on, in house legal leadership role providing day to day legal guidance across entity management, real estate transactions, leasing, development and construction, commercial contracts, employment matters, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
The Director of Legal will manage complex, sensitive matters and support corporate governance for a diverse and evolving portfolio, while effectively overseeing outside counsel. This role partners closely with senior leadership and operating teams, offering the opportunity to shape projects from concept through execution - not just review documents after the fact.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Advising on acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, joint ventures, and financings
- Supporting development and construction matters from early planning through delivery
- Providing legal counsel on employment, operational, licensing, and risk issues
- Managing corporate governance, compliance, and entity matters
- Overseeing and coordinating outside counsel as needed
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- At least four years of corporate, commercial, and real estate legal experience
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Comfortable operating as a broad in house generalist in a fast moving, entrepreneurial environment
- Strong judgment, collaborative mindset, and ability to work directly with senior leadership
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Base salary: $250,000–$275,000
- Target bonus: 25%
- Comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, 401(k), paid time off, and annual bonus eligibility
LOCATION & TRAVEL:
- New York, New York
- Approximately 10% travel
