Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor E-3 visas in North Carolina?
North Carolina hosts several aerospace and defense employers with documented visa sponsorship activity, including GE Aviation, Spirit AeroSystems, L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin, all of which maintain engineering and technical operations in the state. Smaller defense contractors and MRO facilities near military installations also occasionally file Labor Condition Applications for specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship decisions depend on the specific role, headcount, and business need at the time of hiring.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most aerospace and defense E-3 sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle area, including Raleigh and Durham, concentrates defense technology and systems engineering roles tied to federal contractors and research institutions. Greensboro and Winston-Salem in the Triad region host significant aircraft manufacturing and maintenance operations. Goldsboro and Fayetteville see defense-related hiring linked to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Fort Liberty respectively, with contractor positions in logistics, systems support, and program management appearing most frequently in those markets.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship applies to specialty occupation positions, meaning roles that normally require at least a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent in a directly related field. In aerospace and defense, this typically includes aerospace engineers, electrical and mechanical engineers, systems analysts, avionics specialists, software developers working on defense platforms, quality assurance engineers, and program or project managers with technical degrees. Technician and trades roles that do not require a bachelor's degree generally do not qualify.
How do I find aerospace and defense E-3 sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type, so you can search for E-3-eligible aerospace and defense positions in North Carolina without sorting through roles that do not offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers with Labor Condition Application filing history, giving you a clearer picture of which North Carolina contractors and manufacturers have actively sponsored E-3 workers. Combining that search with direct applications to major defense primes operating in the Triad and Triangle regions improves your chances of connecting with hiring managers who understand the E-3 process.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for E-3 sponsorship in North Carolina's aerospace sector?
North Carolina aerospace and defense employers that work on classified programs or sensitive government contracts may require security clearances, which are typically available only to U.S. citizens and can limit the roles open to E-3 visa holders. Unclassified engineering, manufacturing quality, supply chain, and commercial aviation maintenance positions are generally more accessible. Employers near military installations often operate under federal contracting rules, and some facilities require facility access approvals that may affect onboarding timelines for non-citizen hires.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 aerospace & defense jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
