Job Overview

RSM& is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure timely, efficient financial processes. This hands-on role requires strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach.

The Staff Accountant will support financial reporting, reconciliations, and project-related accounting while working closely with teams across the organization. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned responsibilities, resolve discrepancies, and help strengthen financial processes in a fast-paced, growing business.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Support general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and accurate financial recordkeeping
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and prepare supporting schedules
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and discrepancy resolution
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial transactions
• Assist with expense reports, vendor payments, and employee reimbursements
• Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks with proper transaction coding and documentation
• Prepare financial reports and analyze data using Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and formulas
• Assist with budget tracking, expense analysis, and identifying variances
• Support client and project financial tracking, billing, expense allocation, and profitability reporting
• Research accounting discrepancies, identify root causes, and recommend corrections
• Partner with teams across the organization, including Operations, Account Management, Human Resources, and Leadership
• Provide timely and professional responses to accounting questions from internal stakeholders
• Help improve financial accuracy, internal controls, documentation, and accounting workflows
• Assist with audit preparation, tax documentation, and compliance-related requests
• Perform additional accounting and finance duties as business needs evolve
• Leverage AI-powered tools and emerging technologies to streamline accounting processes, automate routine tasks, improve reporting accuracy, and drive operational efficiencies

Requirements

• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized business
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered
• Strong hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks required
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis
• Solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close
• Experience preparing financial reports and supporting accounts payable and receivable processes
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
• Experience in an agency, professional services, or project-based environment preferred
• Familiarity with project accounting, client billing, and expense allocation preferred
• Experience improving accounting systems and processes preferred
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take ownership of responsibilities
