Which energy companies in North Dakota sponsor Green Card visas?
Companies with significant North Dakota energy operations that have sponsored employment-based Green Cards include Continental Resources, Hess Corporation, Whiting Petroleum, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Larger pipeline and midstream operators such as Crestwood Midstream and Targa Resources have also filed Green Card petitions for technical and engineering staff. Sponsorship activity is generally concentrated among operators running long-term Bakken basin projects requiring permanent skilled hires.
Which cities in North Dakota have the most energy Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Williston sees the highest concentration of oil and gas roles tied to Bakken development and is the most active hiring area for field and reservoir engineering positions. Bismarck, as the state capital and regional corporate hub, hosts energy company headquarters and mid-office roles more likely to involve Green Card sponsorship. Dickinson and Minot also have meaningful activity, particularly in pipeline operations, wind energy development, and oilfield services.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in North Dakota?
Roles most frequently sponsored under EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories include petroleum engineers, reservoir engineers, geoscientists, environmental engineers, electrical engineers supporting grid and wind projects, and experienced drilling or completions engineers. These positions typically require a relevant bachelor's or advanced degree and are tied to long-term operational needs, which motivates employers to pursue permanent residency rather than repeated temporary visa extensions.
How do I find energy Green Card sponsorship jobs in North Dakota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, including Green Card, and by industry. You can search directly for energy Green Card sponsorship jobs in North Dakota to see verified openings from employers who have demonstrated sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to manually screening postings that rarely disclose sponsorship willingness upfront.
Are there any North Dakota-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in the energy sector?
North Dakota's energy hiring is closely tied to commodity cycles, particularly oil prices affecting Bakken drilling activity. Sponsorship volume tends to rise during periods of sustained production growth when operators need to lock in experienced engineers long term. Because the state's workforce pool for specialized petroleum and reservoir engineering roles is limited, employers are often more willing to sponsor permanent residency for qualified candidates than in larger metropolitan energy markets.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card energy jobs in North Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
