Search Insurance Jobs in OhioInsurance Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
Which insurance companies in Ohio sponsor work visas most frequently?
Nationwide in Columbus is the largest sponsor, regularly filing H-1B petitions for actuaries, data scientists, and software engineers. Progressive sponsors heavily for technology and analytics roles. American Financial Group and Cincinnati Financial also maintain active sponsorship programs, particularly for actuarial science and underwriting positions. Many of these companies have established international recruiting pipelines.
What visa types are most common for insurance professionals in Ohio?
H-1B visas dominate for specialty roles like actuarial scientists, data analysts, and software developers in insurtech. L-1 visas are common for international transfers within global insurance companies. O-1 visas occasionally appear for senior actuaries or risk management experts with exceptional achievements. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying insurance roles.
How to find insurance visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international professionals with Ohio insurance employers who sponsor work visas. The platform filters jobs by visa sponsorship status and industry, showing current openings at companies like Nationwide, Progressive, and regional insurers. Focus your search on Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati for the highest concentration of sponsoring employers in Ohio's insurance sector.
Which Ohio cities offer the most insurance visa sponsorship opportunities?
Columbus leads with Nationwide's headquarters and numerous regional insurers. Cleveland follows with Progressive's main operations and several specialty insurance companies. Cincinnati rounds out the top three with American Financial Group, Cincinnati Financial, and multiple property-casualty insurers. These three metropolitan areas account for roughly 80% of Ohio's insurance visa sponsorship activity.
Are there specific advantages to working in Ohio's insurance industry for visa holders?
Ohio's lower cost of living compared to coastal markets means H-1B prevailing wages go further while remaining competitive. The state's strong university partnerships, particularly with Ohio State's actuarial science program, create pathways for F-1 to H-1B transitions. Many Ohio insurers have established diversity and inclusion programs that actively support international talent acquisition and visa sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored insurance jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
