Which healthcare companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Oregon?
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is one of the most active employers of F-1 OPT students in the state, particularly for research and clinical support roles. Providence Health & Services, Legacy Health, PeaceHealth, and Kaiser Permanente Northwest also regularly hire international students on OPT. Smaller specialty clinics and Oregon's Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) have also hired OPT workers, though sponsorship frequency varies by facility and role.
Which cities in Oregon have the most healthcare F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the majority of healthcare OPT opportunities in Oregon, driven by OHSU's medical campus, several large hospital systems, and a dense network of specialty clinics. Salem and Eugene have a smaller but consistent share of openings tied to regional hospitals and public health agencies. Bend has seen growth in healthcare hiring as the region expands, though OPT-specific sponsorship is less common outside the Portland metro area.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Oregon?
Roles that directly apply a student's degree field qualify for OPT authorization. In Oregon, this commonly includes clinical research coordinators, health informatics analysts, medical laboratory technicians, public health program associates, and healthcare data analysts. Administrative or operational roles may qualify if they align with a relevant degree, such as health administration or public health. STEM OPT extension eligibility applies to roles tied to programs like biomedical engineering, health informatics, or bioinformatics.
How do I find healthcare F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters healthcare jobs in Oregon by visa type, including F-1 OPT. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, you can search directly for Oregon healthcare employers that have a documented history of OPT sponsorship. Migrate Mate's job board is updated regularly and is designed to surface roles where international student hiring is a known pattern, saving significant research time.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for F-1 OPT healthcare jobs?
Oregon's healthcare workforce shortage, particularly in rural and underserved communities, has made employers more open to hiring international talent. Oregon Health Authority operates several programs targeting workforce gaps, which can create openings for OPT-eligible candidates in public health and community health roles. Students in STEM-designated programs (such as health informatics or biomedical sciences) should confirm their program's CIP code with their DSO, as STEM OPT extension eligibility depends on that classification, not just job title.
