What visa types are most common for insurance jobs in Pennsylvania?
H-1B visas dominate Pennsylvania insurance sponsorship, particularly for actuaries, risk analysts, and software engineers. O-1 visas are used for senior actuaries with exceptional expertise. L-1 visas are common for international insurance companies with Pennsylvania offices, including global firms with operations in Philadelphia's financial district.
Which Pennsylvania cities offer the most insurance visa sponsorship opportunities?
Philadelphia leads with major insurers like Independence Blue Cross and numerous regional carriers. Pittsburgh follows with Highmark Health and growing insurtech companies. Do Pennsylvania insurance companies face specific challenges when sponsoring international workers?
Pennsylvania's prevailing wage requirements for insurance roles are typically competitive, especially in Philadelphia's higher cost market. State insurance regulations require certain positions to be held by licensed professionals, which can affect visa timing. However, the state's strong university system provides a steady pipeline of international graduates already familiar with U.S. insurance practices.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored insurance jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
