Which nonprofit organizations in Texas sponsor H-1B visas?
Several large Texas-based nonprofits have a documented history of H-1B visa sponsorship, including the American Heart Association (headquartered in Dallas), the MD Anderson Cancer Center foundation, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, and various university-affiliated research centers. International development organizations and public health nonprofits with operations tied to the Texas Medical Center in Houston also file H-1B petitions regularly.
Which Texas cities have the most nonprofit H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in nonprofit H-1B activity due to the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world, which anchors significant research and public health hiring. Dallas follows, home to national nonprofit headquarters and large faith-based organizations. Austin's growing nonprofit sector, particularly in education and social services, has expanded sponsorship activity in recent years.
What types of nonprofit roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Texas?
H-1B sponsorship in the Texas nonprofit sector is most common in roles that meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning positions requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. These include public health analysts, biomedical researchers, clinical data specialists, social work managers with advanced degrees, grant-funded program directors, and financial compliance officers. General administrative or volunteer-coordination roles rarely qualify.
How do I find nonprofit H-1B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters listings by visa sponsorship type, including H-1B, and by industry and state. Searching for nonprofit roles in Texas on Migrate Mate surfaces employers that have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving significant time compared to manually reviewing individual organization career pages. Filtering by the Non-Profit and Social Services category within Texas gives the most targeted results.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship at nonprofits?
Texas nonprofits that are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers if they are affiliated with a qualifying institution of higher education or a related or affiliated nonprofit entity. This means certain Texas nonprofits, particularly those connected to universities like UT Health or Texas A&M, can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. Confirming whether a specific employer qualifies for cap exemption requires reviewing their institutional affiliations carefully.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B nonprofit jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
