INTRODUCTION
The Associate Director - BSW Field Education at Utah Valley University plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of social workers through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Working in close partnership with the BSW Field Education Director, this position oversees a portfolio of students and field placements, ensuring each student has access to high-quality generalist and specialized practice opportunities. The role supports students in demonstrating the nine Council on Social Work Education competencies across all system levels - individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities - while maintaining strong alignment with CSWE accreditation standards and student safety protocols. This position is ideal for a dedicated social work professional who values mentorship, ethical practice, and educational excellence. The Associate Director trains and supports Field Placement Supervisors, monitors student supervision, and serves as a guide and advocate for students as they develop professional identity, critical thinking, and intentional practice. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mentor students in integrating theoretical and conceptual social work curriculum taught in the classroom into practice in the field setting through facilitating selected sections of the BSW Field Seminar course.
- Independently manage field education during the summer semester.
- Evaluate, regulate, and supervise field setting and field instructor effectiveness through field site visits to ensure compliance with Council on Social Work Education accreditation requirements.
- Assess and ensure students attain proficiency in Council on Social Work Education-prescribed competencies across all system levels (individual, family, groups, organizations, and communities) through observation, student reflections and assignments, interviews, and surveys of students and field instructors.
- Manage documentation of compliance with all UVU and BSW program policies, including Bachelor Internship Agreement (in coordination with UVU Contracts officer), Agency Accreditation Compliance Agreement, Student Practicum Application, Field Placement Agreement, Timesheets, and Supervision documentation.
- Acts as a liaison between social work practitioners in the community and the BSW program director, including assessing trends in social work practice within the community to recommend curriculum changes.
- Plans, coordinates, and executes BSW field education events, including the Field Instructor Conference (orients and trains new Field Instructors) and the BSW Field Placement event (matches field agencies and students).
- Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Clinical social work experience.
- BSW social work practice experience.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Knowledge
- Social work models and theories of client engagement, assessment, intervention, and practice evaluation. NASW Code of Ethics.
- Council on Social Work Education accreditation standards relevant for field education. BSW curriculum.
