Search Construction Jobs in UtahConstruction Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
Which construction companies sponsor visas in Utah?
Major Utah construction companies that sponsor work visas include Big-D Construction, Okland Construction, Jacobsen Construction, and Wadman Corporation. These companies frequently hire international workers for specialized roles like civil engineers, project managers, and skilled trades supervisors. Many are involved in large-scale commercial and infrastructure projects that require specialized expertise not readily available locally.
How to find construction visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Start by browsing construction positions on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa sponsorship roles in Utah. Focus on companies with active federal contracts or large commercial projects, as they're more likely to sponsor visas. Target positions in Salt Lake City, Provo, and Park City where most sponsoring employers are located. Monitor job postings from major Utah contractors during peak construction seasons.
Which visa types are most common for construction roles in Utah?
H-1B visas are most common for construction engineers, project managers, and specialized technical roles in Utah. TN visas work well for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying construction occupations. Some companies use L-1 visas for international transfers, particularly for large infrastructure projects. O-1 visas are occasionally used for workers with extraordinary expertise in specialized construction technologies.
Which cities in Utah have the most construction sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City leads with the highest concentration of visa-sponsoring construction companies, followed by Provo and West Valley City. Park City offers opportunities in resort and luxury construction projects. Ogden and Lehi also have growing construction markets with some visa sponsorship options. The Wasatch Front corridor generally offers the best prospects for international construction professionals.
What are Utah-specific considerations for construction visa sponsorship?
Utah's prevailing wage rates for construction workers are typically lower than coastal states, which can affect visa applications requiring specific wage levels. The state's focus on technology and data center construction creates demand for specialized electrical and mechanical contractors. Winter weather can impact project timelines and hiring patterns, with peak hiring often occurring in spring and summer months.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
