Which energy companies sponsor Green Card visas in Virginia?
Dominion Energy is the state's largest utility and has sponsored Green Card petitions for engineers, nuclear specialists, and grid operations professionals. AES Corporation, headquartered in Arlington, sponsors internationally for power generation and renewables roles. Amazon Web Services and other Northern Virginia hyperscale data center operators also sponsor energy and power systems engineers through employment-based Green Card categories.
Which cities in Virginia have the most energy Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Richmond is the center of Virginia's traditional utility sector, with Dominion Energy's headquarters driving demand for electrical, mechanical, and nuclear engineers. Arlington hosts AES Corporation and federal energy contractors. Northern Virginia, including Ashburn and Herndon, has significant demand for power systems and electrical engineering professionals supporting the region's data center industry, making it one of the more active areas for sponsored roles.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Virginia?
Roles requiring specialized technical degrees are most commonly sponsored. These include nuclear engineers, electrical engineers, power systems analysts, grid operations specialists, renewable energy project engineers, and energy policy professionals. Positions tied to Virginia's offshore wind projects, such as offshore wind resource assessment and transmission planning engineers, are increasingly appearing in Green Card sponsorship filings as the sector expands along the Atlantic coast.
How do I find energy Green Card sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate lists energy jobs in Virginia where employers have indicated Green Card sponsorship, making it straightforward to filter specifically for those opportunities rather than sorting through general job postings. Virginia's energy market is concentrated around utilities, offshore wind development, and data center power infrastructure, so filtering by those subsectors on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to roles where sponsorship is most commonly offered.
Are there state-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in Virginia's energy sector?
Virginia's regulated utility environment means many energy roles at Dominion Energy fall under state utility commission oversight, which can influence hiring timelines and sponsorship decisions. Nuclear facilities require security clearance eligibility, which affects some foreign nationals depending on their country of citizenship. Virginia's offshore wind mandate under the Virginia Clean Economy Act is also creating new sponsored positions in project development and transmission, though these are relatively new and sponsorship practices are still developing.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card energy jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
