JOB SUMMARY

The Health, Safety & Security (HSS) Superintendent is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and security programs supporting the Kettle River Operations. The role ensures workplace practices comply with federal, state, and company standards and provides visible leadership that promotes safe, reliable, and responsible operations across the site. In alignment with the Kinross Safeground principles, the HSS places people at the center of risk management, fosters learning, and builds trust through consistent engagement, accountability, and collaboration with employees and contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Lead and support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSS programs and processes to meet regulatory requirements and protect people, property, and the environment.
- Serve as a site health and safety liaison with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and strategic partners.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and Kinross standards; use health and safety data to drive learning, improvement, and effective risk control.
- Serve as the site Fire Prevention Officer (FPO), leading fire risk identification and elimination through engineered and preventive controls, and ensuring fire protection systems, training, and emergency readiness meet Kinross standards and regulatory requirements to protect people, assets, and operational continuity.
- Ensure health, safety, and security programs and supporting plans are developed, communicated, implemented, and periodically reviewed, with clear accountability for risk ownership and control effectiveness.
- Facilitate and participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of risk assessments, the site risk register, and associated control plans.
- Coordinate the Critical Risk Management program, ensuring critical controls are clearly defined, verified in the field, and understood by the workforce.
- Develop and implement crisis and emergency management planning, coordination, and incident response; incorporate learning from drills, incidents, and near misses to drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with supervisors and employees regarding safe operating procedures and the management of written standards and procedures.
- Participate in inspections, audits, and incident investigations, including root cause analysis, with a focus on understanding work performed and strengthening systems.
- Demonstrate professionalism and represent Kinross values and leadership principles through visible Safeground leadership, integrity, and consistency.
- Available for weekend, emergency response, and incident management callouts as required.
- Performance of other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of health & safety experience, with five years of experience in the mining industry.
- Experienced in the underground hard rock mining environment. Mine rescue experience preferred.
- Applied knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, state, and other applicable regulatory requirements, as well as relevant industry standards and practices.
- MSHA-certified instructor (surface and underground), with experience developing and delivering health and safety training.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees, contractors, and leaders at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, psychological safety, and open communication to support effective risk management and learning.
- Experience in leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management systems, including coaching leaders and frontline workers in critical risk awareness and safe decision-making.
- Experienced with systems established to manage regulatory obligations.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project), and SharePoint.
- Strong alignment with Kinross values and Safeground guiding principles.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to work in the US.

- Salary Range: $145,000 - $160,000
